Photo report about the Holy Vvedensky Island Monastery
The trafic sign to the St. Vvedensky Island Monastery in Pokrov caught my attention a few years ago… But we kept passing by… traffic jams ahead, and Moscow was still more than 100 km away…
You pass once, twice, three times…
But one day you decide to turn off the highway and stop by…
Perhaps the time has come.
The history of this place is full of changes. First, hermits came to the island in the 17th century. and they built a chapel (I wonder how they delivered the stones to the island for the construction?), then they built a monastery that stood for several centuries, endured the revolution and wars, it was a women’s penal colony in the 30s and a girls’ shelter… now is the monastery for female…
We were incredibly lucky: the rain stopped, the sky began to clear, it was getting dark and there were no tourists or pilgrims…
Silence, clear and fresh air after the rain, occasionally quietly circling yellow leaves…
Autumn… in the monastery…
